AI for Everyone: Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
After our library class, let’s keep talking. Interested in an informal AI coffee gathering in Idyllwild on Saturday, October 10 at 10 AM?
On August 13, 2026, I taught an “AI for Everyone” class at the Idyllwild Library.
I went into it intending to explain some of the basics: What is ChatGPT? What is Claude? What is Gemini? What can these tools actually do? When should we trust them, and when should we absolutely not trust them?
What happened was much more interesting.
The conversation quickly moved beyond which button to push. People wanted to talk about jobs, writers and artists, privacy, scams, misinformation, and what AI means for our relationships with other people.
We certainly didn’t solve all of that in an afternoon.
But several people asked about getting together again, simply to sit down as a community and talk about AI. I like that idea, and I’d like to follow through.
Coffee and a conversation
Our first Idyllwild AI Coffee & Conversation gathering is planned for Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10 AM to noon. Drop in when you can and stay as long as you like. If 11 AM works better for you, that’s fine. This is an informal conversation, so you won’t miss a presentation by arriving later.
Location: Idyllwild. The coffee shop is still to be confirmed. I’ll talk with the shop before announcing a location, and I’ll share the final details with everyone who registers.
If there are four of us, that’s enough. We can start small.
This gathering is for beginners
You don’t need to know how to code. You don’t need a paid AI account. You don’t even need to have used ChatGPT, and you don’t need to have attended the library class.
Bring a question, something interesting you’ve seen, something that worries you, or something you’d like AI to help you do.
Maybe you want help writing an email. Maybe typing or reading is difficult. Maybe you’re trying to make sense of all the conflicting things you hear about AI. Those are all good places to start.
I’m dyslexic, so whether a tool is actually usable matters to me. I’m interested in how computers and AI can make everyday life easier for seniors, people with dyslexia, and anyone who wants a little help without another complicated system to learn.
And if you think AI is wildly overhyped, bring that too.
The point is to have actual people sitting around a table, talking about what this technology means in our lives and helping one another understand it.
