Top Scams Targeting Seniors in Riverside County (2026)

Scammers are getting more sophisticated. Here are the most common scams targeting seniors in our area and how to protect yourself.

Every week, I get calls from clients in Idyllwild, Hemet, and San Jacinto who've received suspicious calls, emails, or texts. Scammers are getting smarter, and seniors are their primary targets. Here's what to watch for in 2026.

The 'Tech Support' Scam

A popup appears on your screen saying your computer is infected. It shows a phone number to call. DON'T call it. This is fake. Microsoft, Apple, and Google will never show you a popup asking you to call them. Close the browser window (or restart your computer if you can't close it) and you're fine.

The 'Gift Card' Scam

No legitimate business, government agency, or utility company will EVER ask you to pay with gift cards. If someone asks you to buy gift cards and read them the numbers — it's a scam. Period. The IRS doesn't accept iTunes cards.

If you think you've been targeted by a scam, don't feel embarrassed — these criminals are professionals. Call me at (951) 468-5674 and I'll help you secure your accounts and report the incident.
